Pored toga, imamo i goste iznenađenja! 🙂

Naši specijalni gosti Chaibia Bouydo Nikolić i Mai El Geridli, predstaviće nam ih u jednom novom svetlu i podeliti sa nama svoje ideje i iskustva.

Chaibia Bouydo Nikolić je predsednik Udruženja srpsko-marokanskog prijateljstva i preduzetnik.

Mai El Geridli je politički i ekonomski analitičar, profesor arapskog jezika i književnosti i borac za ljudska prava.

Ilija M. Kolarac Endowment

Studentski trg 5, Belgrade

Join us in this conversation and find out the answers to these and many other questions. If you have some of yours, we invite you to ask and talk about them.

Naši učesnici, prof. dr Ema Miljković (Filološki fakultet), doc. dr Marko Pišev (Filozofski fakultet) i MA Aleksandar Savić (Filozofski fakultet) pomoći će nam da proniknemo u problematiku i izložiti svoja mišljenja i znanja.

Prof. dr Ema Miljković predaje na Filološkom fakultetu Univerziteta u Beogradu predmet Osnove islamske civilizacije. Na doktorskim studijama istog fakulteta drži kurs Islamska kultura i civilizacija na Balkanu. Bavi se proučavanjem Osmanskog carstva. Izdala je nekoliko monografija među kojima izdvajamo „Smederevski sandžak 1476-1560: zemlja – naselja – stanovništvo“.

One thousand and second night: a conversation about Arabic literature

Friday, March 30th, at 18h

Ilija M. Kolarac Endowment

Studentski trg 5, Belgrade

Arabic cultural center and publishing company Clio invite you to join the conversation about Arabic literature "One thousand and second night".

This is a unique opportunity to hear and get involved in a conversation about contemporary Arabic literature. Through this conversation, you will find out more about Arabic novels and short stories, as well as their translation into Serbian and publishers that have recognised the value of the literature from the Arab world.

Does the Arabic literature follow the trends of the world literature? What are its main characteristics? Why do some Arabic writers write in French, English and other languages? How did the politics and historical circumstances affect Arabic literature? How is the literature of the Arab East different from the literature of the Arab West? How and when did the translation from Arabic to Serbian (Serbo-Croatian) begin? Were the translations form intermediary languages important and to what extent? What are the main issues of translating from Arabic?

Join us in this conversation and find out the answers to these and many other questions. If you have some of yours, we invite you to ask and talk about them.

Our guests, Srpko Leštarić and Dragana Đorđević, are active literary translators and they are among the best and the most productive translators in the whole region.

Srpko Leštarić dedicated his whole career to translating literature. He has translated over twenty-five collections of short stories and novels of modern Arabic literature. The interesting fact is that he collected and translated twelve short stories of writers who were imprisoned and their stories banned in the Arab world, and he named this collection "12 impossibles".
More about Srpko Leštarić read here.

Dragana Đorđević, PhD, Faculty of Philology, is a literary translator and a member of Serbian Association of literary translators. So far she has translated six novels from Arabic, among all, the famous Egyptian writers Bahaa Taher and Gamal El-Ghitani.

It is a story of a woman who lost her lover in war, after which she remains in pain until she meets Al Djinni. She tells him to end the war and make her lover alive again. But this request just brings back her memories, which make them fall in love with each other. They realise that only love can end the war.
In this work, the dependence on the actor’s body as a dramatic element has made the actor perform many roles, where he sometimes replaces the décor, and the actor is the source of music and rhythm through his voice and movement, with the use of physical theatre. Physical theatre is anything that puts the human body at the centre of the storytelling process.
This play rejects the war and calls for love and peace between peoples and religions, as only love can stop any war.
